 April Fool ?

Certain customs and practices are followed by people for centuries all over the world. The reasons for their origin are largely unknown. 1st April is one such day which has a special significance. It is considered as the fools day in nearly all parts of the world. On this day people play practical jokes on friends and neighbors by sending them mock gifts and inviting them to fake parties. but why is it considered as the fools day?

Interestingly , the practice of playing tricks on friends and neighbors on 1st April originated in France after the year 1564. Before 1564 one calendar was used throughout Europe in which each new year began on 1st April. And so it was celebrated as the new year's day. People had the customs of exchanging gifts and visit friends. In 1564 Charles X, The king of France ordered the people to adopt a new reformed calendar . In this calendar the year began with the 1st January. Most of the people adopted this new calendar . But some were not willing to accept ii. And as they continued to observe 1st April as the new year's day, they became butt of practical jokes and tricks by their friends and neighbors. So they started sending mock gifts , invited them for fake parties and played tricks on them on the 1st April. In other words they were April's Fools. So in this manner 1st April became the Fool's Day.
